This is a glass-cased lepidoptera draw from The London Natural History Museum’s Rothchild, Cockayne & Kettlewell Collection.
Commissioned in the 19th century by Walter Rothschild, 2nd Baron. The cabinet maker was: J.J. HILL & SON, CABINET WORKS, YEWFIELD RD, WILLESDEN, LONDON NW10.
The glass case contains a selection of vintage and modern pinned mounted set butterflies, some with damage. (The butterflies are unidentified and unlabelled. No CITES species).
The case/drawer is in fair condition for its age. The putty holding the glass in place is dry and may become loose with prolonged use. In some cases the putty will need to be replaced. Please see photos for details.

During his lifetime Lionel Walter Rothschild amassed a collection of:

Lionel Walter Rothschild, 3rd Baronet, 2nd Baron, died on 27 August 1937. Walter bequeathed his museum and his collections to the British Museum. Known today as the Natural History Museum at Tring, the museum celebrates Walter's passion for the natural world.
It arrived earlier than expected, which was great and the packaging inside was fantastic (a little hard to get through, but I don’t mind at all since it’s all there to protect a fragile item of course) and definitely kept everything nice and safe for the journey here. As for the actual item, the specimens are absolutely beautiful, and I couldn’t be happier with them :)
